Djokovic: Nadal can play 100 percent fit just a few days after barely being able to walk

Novak Djokovic has stressed that he was not surprised by Rafa Nadal‘s excellent physical condition despite the Spanish tennis star having recently recovered from injury.

The two men faced each other in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, where Nadal beat his Serbian counterpart 6-2 4-6 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to progress to the next round.

“No, I’m not, I’m not surprised at all,” replied Djokovic when asked about Nadal‘s physical condition.

“It’s not the first time that he is able to, a few days after he is injured and can barely walk, come out 100 percent physically fit.

“He has done it many times in his career so I am not surprised.”

Djokovic’s wasted chances

Djokovic admitted that he had a few chances to finish off the fourth set and go to the fifth, but he didn’t manage to make the most of those opportunities.

“I had my chances in the fourth [set],” Djokovic added.

“I served for the set, had a couple set points. Just one or two shots could have taken me into a fifth. Then it’s really anybody’s match.

“I gave my best. I know I could have played better.

“I’m proud of fighting and staying until the last shot. As I said, I lost to a better player today. Had my chances. Didn’t use them. That’s it. Over four hours’ battle and I have to accept this defeat.”
